At CFA, innovation is at the core of everything we do. Our research and development focuses on sustainable architecture, advanced technologies, and future-proof design, ensuring our projects meet the evolving demands of the built environment.

Networking & Collaboration

We actively engage in networking with industry leaders and local communities to drive architectural innovation. By partnering with professionals and engaging with the local community, we create designs that are not only sustainable but also reflect the unique needs and aspirations of the people we serve.

Supporting Research

We proudly support PhD research focused on sustainability in the construction industry, exploring the use of immersive technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). This research is key to advancing sustainable building practices and integrating AI and virtual reality into design and construction, helping us create smarter, more sustainable developments.

Regional Impact & Community Support

We are committed to making a positive impact on our region. Our work supports local businesses and communities by prioritising projects that benefit the local economy and enhance the built environment. Through community engagement, we ensure that our designs reflect the values and needs of the people who will live and work in these spaces.

Shaping the Future

By focusing on research, collaboration, and community engagement, we are committed to making a lasting impact on the local landscape, while supporting the local economy and future-proofing developments with innovative solutions.

CFA’s Commitment to Sustainable Practice

In recent years, the UK has intensified its commitment to addressing climate change. Over 300 local councils and numerous architectural practices have declared climate emergencies, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has emphasised that to limit global warming to 1.5°C, global greenhouse gas emissions must peak before 2025 and be reduced by 43% by 2030, reaching net-zero by 2050. The architecture and construction sectors are pivotal in achieving these targets, as buildings account for nearly 50% of the UK’s annual carbon emissions. This highlights the critical role of sustainable design and construction practices in mitigating climate change.

As a signatory of the Architects Declare initiative, Connor Ferris Architects is committed to addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change and biodiversity loss within the architectural industry. Our sustainability efforts focus on both ecological and social foundations, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals for a fair and sustainable future.

Climate Responsibility

We recognise the urgency of climate change and its impact on future generations. We integrate energy-efficient design, responsible material choices, and innovative solutions into our projects to help reduce emissions and support the UK’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Biodiversity and Ecosystem Support

Our designs foster biodiversity, prioritising green spaces and sustainable landscapes that support local flora and fauna. By incorporating features such as green roofs, and habitats for wildlife, we create buildings that coexist with and enhance their natural surroundings.

Water and Resource Efficiency

Resource conservation is central to our work. We use water-saving technologies and efficient systems in our projects to minimise waste and preserve water, ensuring a sustainable approach to resource use.

Social and Community Impact

We believe in designing for people. Our projects aim to improve quality of life, foster community, and promote inclusivity. Through mentorship, community engagement, and pro-bono work, we strive to make architecture a force for positive change, accessible to and supportive of those it serves.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to ongoing research and developmentWe continually evaluate our processes, integrate the latest sustainable practices, and collaborate with experts to drive sustainable innovation in architecture.
